Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the government was committed to enhancing Central Australia.

“This (community infrastructure) package is the next step in improving the amenity and liveability of Central Australian communities, and providing an array of social and economic benefits to its local residents.”

The Community Infrastructure Package is part of the Australian government’s ‘Better, Safer Future for Central Australia’ plan.

Deputy Chief Minister and Member for Gwoja, Chansey Paech, said the investment in the Central Australian communities was needed.

“Local conversations are important and this investment is an example of what can be achieved when all levels of Government come together to listen to the needs of people in the bush,” he said.

“These new sport and recreation facilities will improve participation in healthy activities and offer a range of other lifestyle benefits.

“Residents of these remote communities will soon be able to play sports in the cool of the evening throughout the summer months, when daytime temperatures often soar into the high 40s.”

The second round of projects is anticipated to be announced in May 2024, while the third tranche will be selected in 2026.
