One year after his hometown was devastated by flooding, a Lismore man has become a millionaire after winning a life-changing sum in a Monday and Wednesday Lotto draw.

The Northern Rivers player claimed $1 million after winning one of the four division one winning entries in Monday and Wednesday Lotto draw on Monday.

“Oh mate! Buzzing!” he said following the win, adding, “Yeeha”.

“I was just checking my ticket in the car, and I got a feeling I might have won this. Then I just marked all the numbers off.

“These are the numbers I’ve been using for years. There’s some birthdates and other numbers I’ve been playing for a very long time. It’s a shock to the system, I can tell you. My knees are shaking.

“I’ve always said to people I’d win one day. I just hoped I wouldn’t be too old to enjoy it. Well, I’m not too old to enjoy it, that’s for sure! I’ll still keep working, but this will set my family up for the future.”

The Lott had no way to contact the winner to break the news, so had to wait for the man to identify himself.

His winning entry was purchased at Lismore Central Newspro, managed by Nicole Renshaw who said the win had come as a breath of fresh air for the community which was heavily impacted by flooding a year ago.

“It’s really good news! Coincidentally it was won on Monday, which marks 12 months since the Lismore floods,” she said.

“We’ve had quite a few people come in to check their Monday and Wednesday Lotto tickets, hoping they were the mystery winner we were looking for.

“Congratulations to our winner and we wish them all the very best with their prize.”

The winning numbers were 10, 36, 39, 26, 16, 6, and the supplementary numbers were 29 and 11.
