Scott Morrison has provided another cringe-worthy moment while on the campaign trail

Never one to back away from a cinge-worthy moment, Scott Morrison has shown some junior footy players how to take a selfie.

The Prime Minister has dad-splained how to take a selfie to a group of kids during a photo op at a park in his own seat of Cook in south Sydney this afternoon.

Jumping out of his white BMW, he trudged his leather business boots enthusiastically across the mushy grass that was still muddy after recent rainfall. Sans jacket, it was a sign the PM was prepped to roll up his sleeves and get physical with the gathered boys and girls from Kogarah Cougars footy club.

“I used to play here,” he looked around the field while squinting out the glare. “It certainly needs an upgrade.”

The smell of urinal cakes from the nearby toilet block began wafting over.

He was at Todd Park to pledge $2.5m in upgrades for the facility if the Coalition is re-elected.

While the PM stood in the middle of the huddle and made small talk with the children about how good sport is, a wailing toddler who was blocked from his dad sobbed as he wandered around the outside of the crowd.

“How about we go over here and have a bit of a kick?” the PM said while gripping a well-worn football.

Five, four, three, two …

The PM kicked the ball.

… and the cameras missed it.

“Can you do it again?”

A small boy fetched the ball and returned it to the PM.

Five, four, three, two …

He kicked it again.

“Can you try kicking a goal?” one reporter shrugged.

The PM pretended not to hear the request. Instead, he had a better idea.

“Where are all the kids? Let’s get a selfie!”

He then proceeded to dad-splain to the kids how to take a selfie.

“You guys get around,” he directed, before manoeuvring himself in the middle, “ … I’ll go here.”

Wielding a phone with an outstretched arm, he snapped the photo that will probably live, forgotten, in someone’s online cloud for eternity.

Two year 10 boys in footy uniforms hung at the back, avoiding the selfie.

Were they pulled out of school this Thursday arvo for the PM’s photo op?

“Yeah,” one mumbled. “Supposed to be in history.”
