Currygate, the sequel: Scott Morrison reveals how he accidentally sliced his thumb

Forget slicing debt, the PM gave his own thumb the chop instead. Now he’s revealed how the accident happened ... but is he overcooking his excuses?

There’s a problem with Scott Morrison’s curry dinner

It’s the question the Prime Minister has been dodging for days – what happened to his thumb? Well, now we know.

After being spotted bandaged up earlier in the week, the press pack following Scott Morrison started to wonder ... was this injury related to the scandal that (briefly) gripped the nation a few days ago – Mr Morrison’s allegedly undercooked korma?

After snubbing requests from News Corp to reveal the source of the mystery injury, the PM was confronted with the question live on radio.

Thumbs are a key election tool for political leaders. A Bandaid makes it harder to jab the air when making a point, give the thumbs-up to voters or adjust your high-viz vest and hard hat at a factory photo-op. Picture: Jason Edwards

“How did the Prime Minister injure his finger?” Fordham asked.

“Chopping onions on the weekend when I was cooking a curry. That’s how it happened,” Mr Morrison responded, laughing

It was related to the korma after all. Just another twist in the saga nobody was expecting.

And it gave the PM another chance to defend his curry credentials.

“But that’s the other big issue! Did you cook the chicken properly?” Fordham asked.

“I totally cooked the chicken properly. It was in the pan for about 45 minutes, it was a classic chicken korma. And I can tell you the other one was eggplant and okra, a vegetarian curry,” Mr Morrison said

“You’ve got me on to curries now mate. We’re going to have to extend the interview for another 10 minutes.”

Scott Morrison insists his chicken korma was cooked. Some Aussies are not convinced.

“No no, that’ll do. As long as nobody got sick after eating your curry,” Fordham poked back.

“No, they went back for seconds! They went back for seconds, it was so good,” the Prime Minister insisted.

The mystery is solved. And despite the mishap, every political leader would still rather be the person wielding the knife ...
