Bulldogs star Jason Johannisen wants to make his daughter proud

They’re one of the AFL’s coolest couples, but new parents Jason Johannisen and Logan Shine say there’s more to life than footy after welcoming their daughter into the world.

Western Bulldogs star Jason Johannisen has described how becoming a father has given him greater purpose in sport and life.

Johannisen and his partner Logan Shine welcomed their first child, a daughter, Lola Blair Johannisen, on November 3.

“Footy is awesome and it has provided me with great opportunities. It is not only about trying to do my family and Logan proud, now it is about doing her (Lola) proud as well,” Johannisen said as he prepares to start pre-season training on Monday.

“Everyone was telling me that you can never prepare for a child, but we were both so excited and it is even better than I could have imagined. We are so blessed. She is going to be very spoilt.

“The priority for the last ten years has purely been football and now we are at the time of our lives were we can focus on family as well.”

Shine said Johannisen was made to be a dad.

“Having a child is something that has always been very important to him and he is a wonderful dad,” she said.

“I know she is going to be the biggest daddy’s girl and he is just obsessed with her which makes me love him more.”

Shine said she was not buying into any pressure to be a superwoman juggling work with motherhood.

“I don’t want to look back on my life and think that I rushed everything and did not get to stop and smell the roses with Lola. This is a really special time and I just want to enjoy it,” she said.

Shine has carved a niche for herself as one of Melbourne’s new generation of red carpet women to watch.

She wowed at last year’s Brownlow Medal in a showstopping feathered gown by Melbourne designer Con Ilio and has continued to turn heads at the Bulldogs Best and Fairest in October.

But the business-minded Shine wants to be known as a girl boss rather than a WAG.

“It has definitely been something that has ticked me off since Jason and I met and I was initially dubbed a WAG,” Shine told the Sunday Herald Sun in May.

MORE GOSSIP QUEEN

“It is disappointing to have that individuality taken away by being labelled as an acronym.

“I think as soon as you label someone as a WAG you take away all meaning of the person that they are and they are seen as an object or the person on the arm of a football player.

“I absolutely hate that idea because most of the time we are working behind the scenes supporting our partners and working on our own careers.”
