Middle Eastern and Asian students are set to descend on the Top End after Charles Darwin University signed a significant new agreement last week.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman and Australian International Islamic College founder, His Eminence the National Grand Mufti of Australia Imam Abdul Quddoos Azhari, signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding which represents both institutions’ intent to develop academic and cultural exchanges in learning, teaching, and research activities.
Imam Quddoos said he “prayed” the agreement would bring benefit to the Top End.
“AIIC is delighted to sign the MOU with CDU,” he said.
“We hope and pray this MOU will be beneficial for both local and international students.”
The partnership would involve encouraging Middle Eastern and Asian students to study with CDU and AIIC in Darwin and promoting pathway programs through the CDU International College.
Professor Bowman said the agreement would bring growth to Top End tertiary education.
“Partnerships with organisations such as the Australian International Islamic College are key to this university’s growth locally, nationally and internationally,” he said.
“The exchange of knowledge is key to education, and we are thrilled to explore this opportunity to develop academic and cultural exchanges, and further promote CDU and the Territory to students overseas.”
