Top Half Folk Festival organisers have promised a “family friendly” event for their Picnic Day weekend festival.

Festival director Louis Boyle-Bryant said although ‘folk’ is in the name, the 53rd year of the festival will provide a diverse range of entertainment for varied music tastes.

“We’ve tried to put on a program that appeals to everyone,” Mr Boyle-Bryant said.

“It’s not just folk, there's country, rock adjacent and even a children’s choir too.

“We have organised a range of participatory activities for the weekend with workshops ranging from how to tune your guitar and singing workshops.

“There’ll also be a variety of kid-friendly activities, and 11-years and under can attend the festival for free.”

The festival has moved from its traditional spot on the King’s Birthday weekend to Picnic Day to attract more acts and attendees.

“A special part of being in the NT is having so many amazing First Nations acts on our doorstep, so the organising committee wanted to attract more of these artists,” Mr Boyle-Bryant explained.

“When we shared the weekend with Barunga Festival, we found a lot of acts and attendees had to choose between us and the Territory’s premiere Indigenous music and culture festival.

“We’re hoping this year with the change we can expect up to 1000 attendees — more than the 350 that attended in 2023.”

The organisers said they had already sold 600 tickets for this year’s festival which will take to the stage of Mt Bundy for the first time.

There will be more than 40 performers across three stages, featuring a mix of homegrown and interstate artists.

“I am really looking forward to seeing Eric Avery who is a First Nations folk violinist coming from Sydney,” Mr Boyle-Bryant said.

“NT wise we have the Mparntwe Children's Choir coming up from Alice Springs.

Children aged 11 and under are free, while kids aged 12-17 are $50.
