A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while walking through Alice Springs, with police now calling for information.

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward after a woman walking in Alice Springs was sexually assaulted.

The woman was walking through the Todd River near Heavitree Gap when a man approached her between 1am and 2am.

Police said the man, who was unknown to the woman, physically and sexually assaulted her in the river.

The offender is described as an adult Indigenous male.

The incident was reported to police.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has relevant information is urged to contact police on 131 44, and quote reference number 10147819.

Teenager arrested after taxi knifepoint robbery

A teenager who allegedly robbed a taxi driver at knifepoint, making off with cash and personal cards, has been arrested.

About 2.45am on Thursday, a taxi driver was dropping off a passenger at an address in Ludmilla when a teenager jumped into the car and allegedly threatened him with a large knife.

The taxi driver handed over his wallet, which contained $200 cash and his personal cards, before the boy fled the scene.

The alleged offender was found later that afternoon by Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit with the stolen property on hand.

The youth has been charged with going armed in public and aggravated robbery.

He is expected to face court on Friday.

Man suffers ‘significant’ face injuries in alleged road rage

A man has been taken to hospital after he was allegedly assaulted through his car window while stopped in Darwin traffic.

About 5.30pm on Wednesday, a white Nissan Navara and a white Ford Ranger ute were travelling inbound on McMillians Road at Jingili.

While the two vehicles were stopped at a traffic light, police allege a 19-year-old driver exited the Nissan Nivara and approached the other driver, aged 59.

The younger driver accused the man of cutting him off and hitting his vehicle, before allegedly assaulting him through the car window and then driving away.

The 59-year-old was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with “significant” face injuries.

Police later found the alleged offender in Rosebery, where he was arrested without incident.

The 19-year-old has been charged with unlawfully cause serious harm and is due to face the Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

Police are urging witnesses to the incident to phone 131 444, or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police hunting servo robbers

Police are hunting for two suspects who robbed a service station south of Darwin overnight.

Police received reports of a robbery about 2.15am at the United service station at Coolalinga.

Police said two men, one armed with a hammer, entered the service station and demanded money from an employee and making off on foot with cash, food and drinks.

CCTV footage shows the employee backing through a doorway with his hands raised and one of the men pointing what police said was a hammer at the man.

He is led towards the till before stepping aside as the men fill a plastic bag.

The men are described as being in their early 20s, of caucasian appearance and about 170cm tall.

One of the men has a solid build and was wearing a dark T-shirt, dark long pants, black runners and had his face covered with a black T-shirt.

The other has a thin build and was wearing a cream hoodie, black shorts with a white trim, white socks, black runners and a yellow mask covering his face.

Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields urged anyone with information to contact police.

“This kind of violent offending can have long-term detrimental impacts on those involved,” he said.
