A vehicle has been destroyed overnight and a crime scene established at Mandorah Jetty after a car was found engulfed in flames, while another was broken into and ransacked.
Police said passengers on the Mandorah ferry noticed a Toyota HiLux on fire when they arrived at on Friday night just before midnight.
Fire crews attended and put out the blaze, which damaged a second vehicle parked nearby.
A crime scene was established and fire investigators attended.
Photos of the incident show the car ablaze about 11.45pm, with flames edging towards the second vehicle.
It was dragged away from the blaze but was damaged.
No charges have been laid.
Police urged anyone with information about the blaze to contact them on 131444.
Police nab group wanted over alleged camping store break-in
Police have arrested a group of suspects believed to be involved in a break-in at a Berrimah camping store on Friday morning after a dramatic pursuit.
Police found a vehicle believed to be involved in the alleged break-in, a 2WD single-cab Toyota HiLux, near Cox Peninsula Rd in Berry Springs before a number of people fled into bushland between Hopewell Rd and Doris Rd.
A witness said six police cars were seen “barrelling” up the Stuart Hwy.
A police cordon was set up in the area, with some of the stolen weapons recovered, while the rest were found in bushland about 40km from Daly River.
One adult and four youths were arrested on Friday afternoon after allegedly fleeing the scene.
Charges were expected to be laid on Friday night.
About 4am, police received reports an unknown group had broken into the business and stolen a number of weapons and camping equipment.
CCTV captured an older model 2WD dual cab Toyota HiLux with a roof rack leaving the area.
Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Bland said the arrests were the result of “fantastic” police work.
“Two cordons were quickly set up in extremely challenging, wet conditions and as a result we have arrested all offenders and seized all stolen property,” he said.
“Police would also like to thank the members of the public who provided vital information on the movements of the offenders.”
Teens escape buggy rollover with minor injuries as driver charged
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with drink-driving after he and two other teenagers were lucky to escape serious injuries when their buggy rolled on a rural Darwin road.
Police were called to the intersections of Girraween Rd and Anglesey Rd, near Girraween Primary School, after reports a buggy had rolled.
Police said three people were in the buggy, despite it being a two-seat vehicle.
The 16-year-old driver, another 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were all taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after the crash for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said the buggy had rolled at least once, but may have rolled up to three times.
Police reminded motorists buggies such as the one involved in the crash were not able to be registered and should not be driven on public roads.
The 16-year-old driver was charged with mid-range drink driving and driving uninsured.
Robert Daw found safe and well
A man who was missing for five days has been found safe and well.
NT Police had called for information from the public to help find Robert Daw, who was last seen in Katherine two days before Christmas.
The 31-year-old was last seen driving west out of Katherine on Friday, December 23.
He was seen driving his vehicle, a white single-cab Toyota ute with registration CE96CH.
Police said Mr Daw was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with the words “Never Stop” printed on the chest and black Chicago Bulls basketball shorts.
Police confirmed on Thursday morning the man was found unharmed as they thanked the community for its help.
Man arrested after Christmas Day stroll with machete
A man was arrested on Christmas Day after being seen flashing a large machete in broad daylight.
Police began searching for the man after receiving multiple reports the man was walking in the Palmerston area with a large machete on Sunday morning.
CCTV operators were able to identify the man and track him down, guiding police to the man before they arrested him without incident.
A machete more than 30cm long in the man’s possession was seized by police.
He was taken to Palmerston watch house and hit with a number of charges, including for weapons offences.
A video posted to social media on Sunday shows a man crossing a road holding a large machete.
He is seen waving the knife in the air, appearing to yell, before he tucks the blade into his shorts.
Shortly after, he removes the machete from his shorts and appears to wave it towards the person filming the video from a car.
