A 19-YEAR-old man has been charged for allegedly stealing a firearm and ammunition while ransacking an abandoned property in East Arnhem land.
The property was broken into between December 21 and January 26.

Officers recovered the firearm a couple of hours later. He was charged with unlawful entry of a dwelling, stealing, criminal damage and possession of a firearm while unlicensed.
Senior Sergeant Tanya Woodcock said: “It is heartening that members of our community recognised the potential harm in this situation and supported their local police to achieve a quick resolution.”

The man has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court on January 29.
