Rodeo riding, dog jumping tournaments, and a chance at finding love is up for grabs at this week’s Katherine Show, with thousands expected to pack through the gates for fun and games.
On Friday, the two-day show will open to the public, with a long list of events set to entertain young and old at the Katherine Showgrounds.
Of considerable interest, event organisers have decided to plant a speed dating stand among the show’s event with a view to match make singles across the Top End.
Event coordinator Tiffany Davey said the Speed Dating at Sunset activity, scheduled for Friday evening, was a “no-brainer”.
“This is new for the show and I think for the Territory (to have) a speed dating activity,” she said.
“We want to help people find love and we are committed to the next generation of the Katherine Show and that starts by giving people the opportunity to meet each other.”
Ms Davey confirmed several favourites, including the V8 Ute display, Dachshunds in the Dash race and the children’s activity, the Great Sandpit Dig would feature in addition to a few special guests.
“We’ve also got (artist) Tom Curtain coming, the RAAF flyover and heaps of entertainment.”
The Katherine Show will take place on July 19 and July 20, with gates opening from 8am.
Tickets to the Katherine Show can be purchased at the gate or online at online.katherineshow.org.au/
