June 28: A man who was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident before ramming a Top End courthouse has been arrested.
Northern Watch Commander Justin Bentley said police were called to a domestic violence incident in Katherine East about 10.31pm Thursday.
Sergeant Bentley said the man allegedly left the scene in a Toyota Troop Carrier before police arrived.
He said the man drove to the town’s CBD where he allegedly rammed the front doors of the Katherine Local Court.
Sergeant Bentley said the man did not exit his car before he left again.
He said the courthouse would still be usable despite the “odd” sequence of events.
Sergeant Bentley said the man allegedly returned to the Katherine East home about an hour later where he was arrested in relation to the domestic violence incident as well as the damage to the courthouse.
He said police expected to lay charges in relation to both incidents on Friday.
‘Expect delays’: Police race to multi-car highway crash
June 26, 7.20am: Motorists making their way in to work from Howard Springs are set to face delays after a multi--car crash on the highway.
NT Police are responding to a multi-car collision inbound on the Stuart Highway at Howard Springs.
The crash, police said in a statement, happened at the intersection of Lambrick Ave.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays and to seek alternative routes if possible,” the statement said.
International student robbed after threats to get into thieves’ car
June 26: A pair of alleged thieves who coerced an international student to get into their car by threatening him with a knife are on the run.
Northern Watch Commander Tim Healey said the 22-year-old student was confronted about 4.15am Wednesday in the Darwin CBD.
Sergeant Healey said the alleged thieves brandished weapons and demanded the student get into their small black hatchback.
He alleged the pair drove away with the student, stole a small sum of money, and released him on Bagot Rd, Coconut Grove.
Sergeant Healey said the student was uninjured in the incident but was “shaken up”.
He said the matter had been referred to the NT Police criminal investigation unit and urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.
Woman thwarts alleged thieves from stealing neighbour’s car
June 25: A Katherine hero who was allegedly attacked after stopping two alleged thieves from stealing her neighbour’s car has come away from the ordeal with minor injuries.
An NT police spokesman said two children allegedly broke into a Lucy St home about 2.30am Tuesday and stole a set of car keys.
The spokesman alleged the duo tried to steal the vehicle parked in the house’s driveway when the woman who lived next door confronted them.
He said the children allegedly assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene on foot.
The spokesman said the woman was assessed after the alleged scuffle but did not require treatment for her injuries.
He urged anyone with information about the alleged incident to contact police on 131 444.
Woman hit by car outside cemetery, driver flees
June 25: A woman who was hit by a car while visiting a cemetery has been taken to hospital while police hunt for the driver of the vehicle.
An NT Police spokesman said the vehicle collided with the woman in Jingili about 2.50pm Friday.
The spokesman said the woman left the scene and attended Nightcliff Police Station, where paramedics treated her before taking her to Royal Darwin Hospital.
He said police were told the vehicle involved in the incident was headed to a remote community with a large amount of alcohol and cannabis.
The spokesman said Daly River police found and apprehended the vehicle with tyre spikes but the occupants fled into nearby bushland.
He said the vehicle, alcohol, and cannabis were seized and called on anyone with information to contact police on 131 444, quoting reference P24166822.
Teenagers charged following late night car chase in Darwin
June 24: Three teenagers have been arrested and charged after allegedly holding up elderly residents at knifepoint before taking police on a late night car chase across Darwin.
About 9.50pm on Saturday, police received reports that three youths had allegedly entered a residence on Oleander Street armed with an edged weapon and threatened the elderly occupants, before stealing car keys and a quantity of cash.
The alleged offenders fled the scene in the stolen vehicles from the residence.
One of the vehicles was found abandoned in Malak.
Strike Force Trident was deployed and located the second stolen vehicle and engaged it in a pursuit through Karama which was terminated for safety reasons.
Tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed on the stolen motor vehicle in Bees Creek and a second pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit made its way from the rural area towards the northern suburbs and ended when the vehicle mounted a curb and came to a stop on Vanderlin Drive.
A 17-year-old allegedly fled from the vehicle and was apprehended in nearby bushland where they had been hiding.
Two 13-year-olds were arrested from within the allegedly stolen vehicle.
Online, footage circulated of a long convoy of police vehicles pursuing the allegedly stolen vehicle.
On Monday, Commander Danny Bacon told a press conference in Darwin the large police presence which responded to the incident was appropriate.
“(At the time) we don’t know what the capabilities of the individual in the car are, whether they’re armed – we know that they (allegedly) committed a robbery with edged weapons – so certainly having suitable numbers of police available to apprehend when it’s safe to do so.”
All three teenagers were charged with numerous property related offences and have been remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday.
Man hospitalised with spinal, head injuries after falling from roof
A man is in a serious condition after plummeting from a three-metre high roof in Katherine on Sunday evening.
About 9:30pm on Sunday, St John Ambulance received reports that a man had fallen from a residential roof in Katherine East.
The man sustained serious spinal and head injuries from the drop.
A St John’s Ambulance spokeswoman told the NT News that the man was treated at the scene before he was conveyed to Katherine Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
