A popular camping site has been revamped and opened for the Dry Season thanks to a million-dollar investment.

Gumil campground‘s redevelopments include two scenic lookout points, 16 unpowered sites, an amenities block, and access to wood-fired barbecues.

The site is accessible by 4WD and offers a base for Territorians to explore the Judbarra/Gregory National Park’s fishing and driving recreational opportunities.

The campground is a few hours west of Katherine and just 27km east of the Victoria River Roadhouse.

Parks and Rangers Minister Selena Uibo said the national park attracted almost 50,000 visitors last year.

“We know how much Territorians and visitors love to spend time outdoors – that is why we have invested in improving the Gumil campground,” she said.

“The Territory Labor Government has worked closely with Traditional Owners to protect our unique landscape through joint management, and ensure the Park can be safely enjoyed.”

Traditional Wardaman dancers celebrated the official opening of the campground alongside Ms Uibo.
