Grass fire lights up sky near Leanyer recreation Park

A grassfire that lit up the sky behind a Darwin water park sparked the curiosity of onlookers. See the footage.

Ash fell from the sky while a fire blazed near a popular water park on Wednesday night.

Smoke and flames were visible near the Leanyer Recreation Park which caught the attention of about 30 people in the nearby carpark.

The fire was reported to Police, Fire, and Emergency Services at 6.34pm Wednesday and extinguished by 8.26pm the same night.

No warnings in regards to impacts on public safety were issued by NT PFES with a spokeswoman stating alerts were issued for significant blazes throughout the bushfire season.

“During the NT’s bushfire season from April-November, NT PFES issues alerts including advice, watch and act notices, and emergency warnings for significant blazes,” the spokeswoman said.
