It’s cheers from the Gold Coast Mayor to a new country-hopping beer.
Gold Coast craft merchant Burleigh Brewing Co and the Czech Republic’s Budějovický Budvar have joined forces to brew a new drop, Czech Mates.
And, the beer is so good it has personally been given the stamp of approval from beer-loving Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
“It tastes like one of the smoothest lagers I’ve ever had,” he said, after taking a long pull from the Czech stein at an exclusive tasting of the new brew on Thursday.
“The only warning is it’s so good that’s its easy to forget how many you’ve had.”
He described the beverage was “thought provoking”.
Burleigh Brewing Co’s Brennan Fielding said he was introduced to the brewers at Budvar through a friend in June last year, and less than a year later they have combined ingredients and knowledge from both places to brew a beer fit for a mayor.
“So we’re taking the yeast from their brewery as well as hops from their region … and we’re using Australian malt and Gold Coast water,” Mr Fielding said.
He said the process also used a lot of knowledge from the brewers at Budvar, who are part of an 800-year beer brewing legacy.
Czech Mates is available from Burleigh Brewing Co from the end of July.
