Darwin’s rural community will honour the memory of a motorcyclist after he was killed in a horror crash.
Friends and family of George Wilson will join a memorial ride starting at Berry Springs Tavern at 9.30am Sunday.
Organiser David Rowe said Mr Wilson was “sadly taken from the bike community”.
“I shook George’s hand eight days before,” Mr Rowe said.
“After we finished our drinks, we said, ‘let’s organise a ride for Sunday 5th November’.
“Instead of going on a ride with George, we are going for a ride for George.”
Mr Rowe said the trip would follow the Stuart Highway to the Tap on Mitchell, where riders and drivers can stop to share a few drinks.
“The Tap Bar is another favourite bar – besides the Berry Springs Tavern – he is part of the furniture and his friendly, kind manner will be missed,” he said.
The community convoy will head back to Berry Springs Tavern via Tiger Brennan Dr, stopping at the crash site on Finn Rd on the way to “have a beer with George”.
The Top End community has rallied behind Mr Wilson and his family, with many planning to bring their cars or bikes along for the ride.
“Absolute gentleman, will be very sadly missed,” one man wrote on Facebook.
“He was a good mate of mine, one of my riding brothers,” another said.
It comes as a 30-year-old man who was also involved in the crash fights for his life.
An NT Health spokesman on Thursday said the driver remained in a critical condition in Royal Darwin Hospital.
An NT Police spokesman said the driver was allegedly trying to overtake another vehicle on the rural road when he collided with Mr Wilson shortly before 5.30am Tuesday.
