A Geelong woman has received the fright of her life after discovering a snake hanging from her roof over the weekend.

A Geelong woman has received the fright of her life after discovering a snake hanging from her roof on Sunday night.

Rachel Hopkins said she was left frozen after discovering a snake hanging from her bathroom vent at around 11pm on Sunday.

“I thought it was going to drop down, I didn’t step foot in the bathroom. I was shocked,” she said.

Ms Hopkins had purchased the Geelong property just three months prior and was unaware that a nearby neighbour had been missing their pet python since September.

Darren Keiller, from Snake Catcher Geelong took Ms Hopkins call and was at the scene before midnight.

He confirmed the snake was in fact her neighbours missing pet.

“When I took the call she didn’t know what she had, she just knew it was a snake,” he said.

“(Rachel) was frightened, she didn’t want to go into the room, she kept her distance which is the first thing you should do.”

He said pet pythons when missing are usually found within 20 metres of where they were last seen, and in this case, in Ms Hopkins crawl space which he said was a little unusual.

“Getting a call about a snake coming down from the roof is a bit rare but a call at that time of the night its just like another day,” he said.

“Normally venomous snakes are around skirting boards but in this case being a pet pyhton it can be anywhere, pythons like climbing.”

He said although it can be quite alarming, pet pythons mean no harm except for when there are pet birds.

“Keep away from any snake, especially if you don’t know what species it is,” he said.

“We only have venomous in the Geelong area, unless it is an escaped pet.”

Ms Hopkins who went to work the next day following very little sleep said she has since received an apology from her neighbour but say it was “a good ending.”
