THE first tranche of foreign military officials undertaking quarantine at a hotel in the Darwin CBD will be out by today, while more have arrived in the city.
A total of 83 people — 28 foreign military officials and their families — were due to leave the Travelodge Resort Darwin on Cavenagh Street between yesterday afternoon and today.
They will make their way to Victoria, the ACT and NSW to undertake “international training”, the nature of which Defence has not disclosed beyond stating in a press release in early January that the program is “highly valued”.

“(The program) reinforces Australia’s reputation across the region as the security partner of choice,” it stated.
A total of 181 people – 67 foreign military officials and their families – remain in the Defence-managed quarantine hotel and are due to leave between January 25 and February 1 once their 14 days of mandatory quarantine is complete.
A Defence spokesman also revealed four people – two foreign military officials and their families – arrived in Darwin yesterday.
Defence has not disclosed the foreign officials’ country of origin and whether they have arrived from places with strains of contagious coronavirus variants such as the US or Britain.
According to Defence, the arrival of foreign military officials does not impact international arrival caps for returning Australians.
Since the first plane load arrived on January 4, there have been two cases of coronavirus among the military contingent.
The two infected people were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital while 19 people — known close contacts of the two individuals — were taken to the Howard Springs quarantine facility as a precaution.
Meanwhile, an international repatriation flight due to arrive in Darwin from Delhi was delayed due to “technical difficulties”.

The flight, which was due to land yesterday with travellers bound for the international wing of Howard Springs, is due to land today instead.
Another repatriation flight from Delhi is scheduled to arrive in Darwin tomorrow.
The NT currently has seven active cases of coronavirus.
