A volunteer firefighter is being remembered for the “funny memories” he brought to the job after he died in a car crash on Saturday.
Neil Jones, 55, was the sole occupant of a 4WD involved in a devastating crash with a truck on the Arnhem Highway at Humpty Doo on Saturday.
It is understood Mr Jones also worked at the Northern Territory’s Batchelor Institute.
Bushfires NT, SecureNT, and the Marrakai Volunteer Bushfire Brigade took to Facebook to pay their respects to Mr Jones and his family.
“Neil was an active volunteer of the Marrakai Volunteer Bushfire Brigade,” the MVBB statement read.
“Many funny memories were held on the fire line and later at the fire shed.”
Bushfires NT said it was “saddened” to learn of the long-time volunteer’s passing.
“(He) will be sadly missed by all who knew him,” Bushfires NT said.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to Neil’s family and friends and the Marrakai community.
“May you find strength in the support of friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
