The crocodile-infested waters of Cahill’s Crossing now has 4G mobile service, the Territory Government has announced.
One of Australia’s most iconic causeways, Cahill’s Crossing, located on East Alligator River, attracts visitors across the nation.
The famous causeway benefits from the Territory Government’s $28 million partnership with Telstra – an initiative which has provided coverage to communities such as Laramba, Top Springs Roadhouse, and Wutunugurra.
Minister for Corporate and Digital Development Selena Uibo said improved telecommunication was “critical”.
“It’s fantastic that locals and visitors can now make and receive calls from Cahills Crossing,” she said.
“The Territory Labor Government is committed to improving telecommunications in the bush.
“Modern digital connectivity is critical to the Territory economy, social development and cultural expression, and bridging the digital divide.
“The NT Government highly values its partnerships with Telstra, which are delivering infrastructure to connect more remote Territorians.”
Since 2009, it is estimated more than 40,000 Territorians across 84 locations, including 54 remote communities, have benefited from telecommunication programs launched by the Territory government.
