All things camping, fishing and caravanning were on display at Reid Park as the 2024 Townsville Expo kicked off on Friday.

Outdoor enthusiasts were able to check out hundreds of campervans and trailers, as well as presentations on outback cooking and Australian wildlife.

Ranger Dan Bamblett from Hands On Wildlife showed the crowds some of the creatures they could encounter on their adventures including saltwater crocodiles, coastal taipans and inland taipans, and how to stay safe if bitten.
“Most of our talk is based around snakes and snake safety but we come from angles of what snakes you might see when you are out and about enjoying the countryside, as well as what you can find in your backyard,” he said.

“This time of year snakes are gearing up for winter and are moving into those more comfortable positons.”

“We are trying to drive home that the best thing to do is to be prepared and then if anything happens you have what you need. We aren’t trying to scare people away from camping, just reminding them about snakes that they can encounter”.

On hand to help out those wanting a new caravan were Jayden Connell and Kent Smith from On The Move Caravans.

“They are designed for off grid living, you can take them anywhere,” Mr Smith said.

“They come with solar and lithium battery. They are state of the art, this is the future of caravaning.”

“People are looking for the all in one package. We travel all around the country showing these caravans to interested buyers and events like this are great to let people get a hands on look at the different caravans on offer.”

The RACQ were also on hand to run on and off road safety demonstrations for interested punters planning long travel in the near future.

Weight distribution, legal requirements and checks and making sure every step has been taken to ensure a caravan is roadworthy before setting off were all on the itinerary.

The Townsville Expo will run until Sunday at Reid Park. For tickets and information visit townsvilleexpo.com.au
