Car becomes stuck in large sink hole on busy Darwin street

A car has become stuck in a large sink hole which formed in a busy Darwin street.

A CAR became stuck in a large sink hole in a northern suburbs street this week.

The sink hole, on Ridgehaven Street in Leanyer, was reported to authorities on Monday.

According to a Power and Water spokesperson, the sink hole formed because of a water main failure around 3pm.

Pictures obtained by the NT News show a car driving along the road became stuck in the hole and had to be removed.

The NT News understands Police were called to the scene, with Power and Water, contractors and traffic control also on the ground.

“Traffic management attended to ensure motorists’ safety until the area was isolated and made safe,” the Power and Water spokesperson said.

“Crew attended and made temporary repairs.

“The area has been isolated and made safe.”

City of Darwin has also been contacted for comment
