A video shows a one kilometre plume of poo released from the Ludmilla ‘poo shooter’ that could be fouling the waters of Fannie Bay, a tourist operator has said.
Sea Darwin owner operator Jim Smith said a video he shot showed the shocking contrast of the sewage discharge, looking like an oil slick, to the crystal blue waters in Fannie Bay it was being released into.

“It’s outfall from the sewerage facility but I’ve never seen it as black and as horrible as that,” he said.
“It extended for quite a way … well over a kilometre wrapping around East Point … that’s a tragedy from my perspective.”
Amateur Fishermen’s Association of the NT chief executive David Ciaravolo said while he couldn’t tell just from looking at the video, questions should be raised about the sewage plant if the discharge was affecting the water quality.

“I think it’s entirely appropriate for community to raise questions about sewage treatment and level of treatment,” he said.
“It’s important for marine health and wellbeing that we are continually upgrading our standards in terms of best practice.”
