SONGSTRESS Stevie Jean Kyriacou has come a long way from creating music in her back yard.

The fiery, quick-witted sensation grew up on a 2ha property in Humpty Doo, where she would climb up trees to write poetry and sing.

“The remoteness of the NT gives you a lot of space to create,” she said.

Stevie Jean adopted her parent’s music tastes, growing up with a love for Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin.

She credited her booming voice to her Greek heritage.

Stevie Jean lets the audience interpret her songs in their own way.

“Music is a personal thing but it should be personal to everyone. I’m just writing an experience from my point of view,” she said.

Proud parents Michael and Sharon tried to persuade Stevie Jean to be a music teacher but the classroom could never hold the songstress.

“I love creating and being on stage, especially when there’s a good vibe in the room,” she said.

Stevie Jean will be taking the stage on Friday, 9pm at Happy Yess to launch her new single Estranged.
