Woman speared in ‘large disturbance’ at Roper Gulf region community over the weekend

July 14, 11.30am: A woman was speared during a “large disturbance” in a Top End community at the weekend.

An NT Police spokeswoman said the 35-year-old woman was speared through the abdomen in a Roper Gulf Region community on Saturday.

“About 1am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports of a 35-year-old female being speared through the abdomen during a large disturbance,” she said.

“The female was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital by Careflight in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Investigations remain ongoing to understand the circumstances of the incident and identify the alleged offender.”

Man, 42, who allegedly knocked his partner unconscious dealt with spate of charges

July 13, 2.20pm: A man who allegedly beat his partner until she fell unconscious was dealt a raft of charges.

Northern Territory Police said it received notice of the incident on Dick Ward Drive at about 1.30pm Saturday.

Police alleged the man, 42, physically assaulted his female partner, causing her to fall unconscious.

Witnesses to the incident provided initial first aid to the victim before authorities arrived, police said.

The woman — whose age is unknown — was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they arrested the man at the scene.

He has since been charged with Aggravated Assault; Choking, strangling or suffocating; Intend serious harm, cause harm; and Make a threat to kill.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday.

Police said it thanked the bystanders who provided aid to the victim.

Man scurries 12 metres up tree after alleged CBD assault

July 10, 3.20pm: A man, who allegedly assaulted a woman in the Darwin CBD, had to be coaxed down from a tree he had fled up in order to evade police capture.

Police allege the 41-year-old man assaulted a woman in the CBD about 11.50pm on Wednesday before fleeing from general duties officers on foot.

The alleged offender climbed 12 metres up a tree on the Esplanade where he allegedly threw sticks at the officers below.

Police negotiators were called after members were unable to take the man into custody, and were eventually able to force the man to surrender.

Back on the ground there were no further incidents as police made the arrest with charges expected at a later date.

Woman freed by fireys after Palmerston crash

July 10, 6.30am: Firefighters freed a woman trapped by her car in an accident on the outskirts of Palmerston after midnight on Thursday.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankine said emergency services first received reports of the single vehicle rollover on Elrundie Ave about 12.20am on Thursday morning.

He said a 32-year-old woman was found with her legs trapped under her vehicle while “conscious and talking”.

Attending NTFRS firefighters lifted the vehicle to free the woman’s legs.

A St John NT spokeswoman said the crash victim was then taken to RDH with “critical injuries”.

Youths steal man’s car at knifepoint at Aralia St, Rapid Creek

July 9, 6.30am: A Rapid Creek man had his car stolen at knifepoint outside his home on Wednesday morning, according to NT Police.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankine said the armed robbery occurred about 2am just outside the 47-year-old man’s Aralia St residence.

A young male offender approached the man wielding a knife and demanded his keys, then took off with his grey Nissan X-Trail with a “number of other offenders” entering the vehicle, Commander Rankine said.

Police are still searching for the group and the vehicle.

They urge anyone with information or CCTV in the area to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference number P25183138.

Top End crime: Katherine driver who hit pedestrian arrested for drug driving, driving unlicensed

July 8, 3.27pm: An unlicensed driver who allegedly hit a pedestrian in Katherine East on Monday has tested positive for drugs.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, allegedly hit the woman pedestrian on Maluka Drive after she “stepped out onto the road” at about 8.20pm Monday.

Northern Territory Police said the driver “immediately” stopped to render assistance.

Police later arrived on the scene and the driver underwent roadside alcohol and drug tests.

The man allegedly returned a positive result for drugs, police said.

He was then found to be unlicensed and was arrested for a toxicology assessment.

The pedestrian was taken to Katherine District Hospital by St John NT with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations remain ongoing into the crash.
