Darwin dietitian Richard ‘Sags’ Sager remembered by rugby club after fatal QLD motorbike crash

Tributes are flowing for a Darwin dietitian and rugby player who lost his life in a motorbike crash in Queensland. Read how he was remembered.

A Darwin dietitian and father of two is being remembered as “well liked” and a “good fella” by his rugby club after he died in a motorbike crash in Brisbane.

Richard Sager, 50, owner of Darwin Dietitians, died on Sunday night when a car and his motorbike collided in Brisbane’s north.

Queensland Police on Monday said early investigations suggested a black Mazda 3 and Mr Sager collided when the driver turned into a street he was exiting.

Mr Sager was a well-known business owner in Darwin and a “much liked” member of the Stray Cats Social Rugby Club, where his teammates knew him as “Sags”.

Stray Cats president Bruce Kennon, who had known Mr Sager since he moved to Darwin, said he looked back fondly on memories of playing alongside his mate.

“Life is slowly getting away from us and we enjoy these moments,” Mr Kennon said.

“He was a good fella.

“He was well-liked by his teammates … I got some responses from the (club) members pretty much straight away sending their condolences.

“They’re just all in shock. It’s terrible.”

Mr Kennon said the impact of Mr Sager’s death would be felt by the entire club.

“He’s here one day and gone the next,” he said.

“It wasn’t like we had time to say goodbye or anything like that.

“It’s just all so sudden. It’s leaves you with a heavy heart and a bit of a void in your life.”
