DAMAGE done by a four-wheel drive that slammed into popular Darwin watering hole Six Tanks Brew Co. will cost upwards of $15,000 to fix, the bar’s manager has said.

Alwin Eldhose, manager at Six Tanks, said he was the last remaining staff member at the bar on Sunday morning and witnessed the incident that has left one man injured.

The 2003 Toyota LandCruiser slammed into the pub around 3am, with police alleging initial investigations indicate the driver had been involved in a brawl with a group of people before jumping into the car and driving into them.

Six Tanks Brew Co. shut its doors at 2am this morning. It’s understood Mitchell St was a hive of activity at the time of the incident.

“No (customers or staff) were hurt so that’s a big relief for us … if (Six Tanks) was open, it would have been a different story,” Mr Eldhose said.

“Out of nowhere a car came in.

“I was a bit shocked for a couple of minutes … not sure what was happening.”

Mr Eldhose said the pub’s glass front doors, front rail, chairs and tables and other fixtures have been destroyed.

He estimated it would cost $15,000 to $20,000 to fix, and most of it will have to be repaired on Monday.

Despite the destruction caused the watering hole is expected to open at 4pm today, with staff hurriedly cleaning up what they can to get Six Tanks up and running again.

In a statement issued at 5.10am Sunday morning, Northern Territory Police “are calling for witnesses who filmed an assault incident on Mitchell Street” to contact them.

A Darwin 24/7 minimart worker, who had direct line of sight to the incident, described the incident as frightening and said there were other pedestrians walking around Mitchell St at the time.
