Focus on staff, as NT Police deputy commissioners to receive two assistants each under restructure

A RESTRUCTURE within NT Police will help reform culture and put a focus on staff under the Commissioner’s Project 2030 – Back to Basics to Set Our Future.
The restructure will take effect from February 24, when incoming Deputy commissioner, people, crime and capability Murray Smallpage starts in his new role, joining current deputy commissioner, Territory Operations and Road Safety Michael Murphy.

Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker said the changes would allow for a better distribution of

“To serve and protect our community I need to ensure we operate under a structure that will provide members with the necessary level of support, tools and training to do their jobs.”
The restructure will see both deputy commissioners receive two assistant commissioners, who each will have two commanders.
The restructure will see the alcohol Policing Unit duties and reporting incorporated into the Darwin and Social order division, while road policing will be incorporated into the southern northern and Darwin commands.
The Social Order Unit will continue to be operating from Nightcliff at this time and will be reporting through Darwin and road policing command.

Territory Relief Pool members will return to fixed locations, with relief arrangements to continue for the short term.
A number of consultative meetings will occur to establish the relief obligation being shared across all police portfolios into the future.
Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services continue to work on their new structure which will be finalised in the near future.
