FAMILY and friends of Hassan Baydoun, 33, gathered outside the Palms Motel on Thursday night to share their “deep sadness” and to honour their slain loved one.
Ali Kansso, one of around 50 mourners, came from the same village in Lebanon as his friend Hassan.
“I’m deeply affected by this and so is everyone else who knew Hassan, everyone shares the same feeling of sadness for his tragedy and loss,” he said.
“Everyone who met him knew him as a good person, a kind-hearted person and everyone wants to pay tribute to him in some way.”
He said it was the “deep” conversations with his friend that he would miss most.
Among the people gathered were those he knew from Charles Darwin University, former colleagues from Melaleuca Refugee Centre where he worked in IT support and colleagues from Blue Taxi Company.

Mr Baydoun had recently graduated with a masters degree from Charles Darwin University. He moved to Darwin 10 years ago and had just bought his first home.
His cousin Abdallah Salman said Hassan was “one of the greatest people” he knew and he’d be missed “infinitely”, especially by his mother.
“He hasn’t seen her for three years, and that fact alone broke his heart each passing day,” he said.
“The devastating fact is that he was supposed to see her in three months.
