Colombian supporters descend on Lost Arc for final watch-along

A sea of yellow, blue and red made their voices heard as they watched their national side take on Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final in Miami.
Despite being on the other side of the globe, the Colombian expats and a few Argentinians, crammed into The Lost Arc in Darwin’s CBD for a nailbiter of a game.
While it may have not been the result many of the those in attendance were after, president of the Colombian-Australian Association of the Northern Territory (COLANT) Ben Poveda-Alfonso said he was proud to see such a turnout on a weekday.
“It was remarkable and inspiring to see so many people getting together on a Monday morning to watch what was an exciting match,” Mr Poveda-Alfonso said.
“I was proud to see 100 people, mostly Colombians with about 15 Argentines supporting their nations.”
In what will be a big week for Colombians in Darwin, Mr Poveda-Alfonso said the festivities would be even grander this Saturday as he and his fellow countrymen celebrate Colombian Independence Day.
“COLANT is a vibrant and dynamic organisation dedicated to fostering a sense of community among Colombians and Australians in the NT, and our mission is to celebrate and promote the rich cultural heritage of Colombia while strengthening the bonds between our two diverse communities,” he said.
“(The celebrations will continue) as we’ll celebrate the Colombian Independence Day and the launch of the Colombian-Australian Association of the Northern Territory (COLANT) this Saturday 20th from 10am to 4pm at Melaleuca Australia.”
