A teenager allegedly involved in the gunning down of a young Darwin man has had his matter delayed another month.

On Wednesday morning, a preliminary examination for Matthyis Leedie was held at Darwin Local Court.

Mr Leedie has been charged with recklessly endangering life, aggravated robbery, unlawfully causing serious harm and going armed in public in relation to the alleged shooting of a 23-year-old man at a Coconut Grove residence on February 3.

Police alleged the “targeted attack” was coordinated between three people waiting outside the residence, and the young victim’s legs were shot.

It was also alleged the victim was assaulted while writhing in pain on the ground.

Mr Leedie’s co-accused, Damon Matthew McCourt and Nathan Johnson were arrested in Katherine just hours following the shooting.

Mr Leedie’s co-accused, Damon Matthew McCourt and Nathan Johnson, were arrested hours after the shooting south of Katherine – more than 300 km from the scene.

Mr Leedie was arrested days later at a residence in Karama.

The following morning, when Mr Leedie was due to face court, he fell “unwell” after suffering a reported medical episode in the cells.

St Johns Ambulance attended the courthouse and took Mr Leedie to Royal Darwin Hospital.

On Wednesday morning, two months after being carted away in an ambulance, Mr Leedie’s matter returned to Darwin Local Court.

Lawyer Michael Drury represented Mr Leedie, who was excused from attending.

The prosecution told Judge Tanya Fong Lim they would apply for a four-week adjournment as they intended to provide Mr Drury their brief of evidence documents.

The court heard the brief was “substantial” and included CCTV and body-worn footage.

Mr Leedie’s matter will return to Darwin Local Court on May 7, 2025.
