Woman jailed for six months after assaulting paramedic on duty

A woman has been jailed for six months after pleading guilty to assaulting an ambulance officer while he was on duty.

A WOMAN has been jailed after pleading guilty to assaulting an ambulance officer while he was on duty.

The court heard on February 14 Selissa Kunoth called St. Johns ambulance service requesting the assistance of an ambulance in Alice Springs.

One paramedic evaluated Ms Kunoth while the other man witnessed, but she became agitated when being questioned during the assessment.

She attempted to walk away before being persuaded to finish the assessment, but became agitated again and went towards the house.

The paramedic who evaluated her looked through the house window to see if there was a carer present for Ms Kunoth, when she screamed at him and picked up a cordless handset phone from the veranda.

The court heard she cocked it behind her head before she threw it at him, which hit him in the back of the head which caused pain and swelling.

Kunoth was sentenced to six months jail.
