THUNDERSTORMS and fresh and gusty winds will give Territorians some slight reprieve from the hot winter days this week.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Sally Cutter said showers will develop in the far south west district late tomorrow and extend across the southern half of the NT on Wednesday.
“There’s going to be some fresh north to north westerly winds and storms could be quite fast moving,” Ms Cutter said.
“It’ll contract off to the east during Thursday and some cooler air will come in behind with temperatures dropping back to the high teens.
“This is the weather you’d expect possibly in spring as winter and spring is when you the cold fronts moving through southern half of Territory.
“We are looking up to 3-4mm of rain which widespread but if you get under one of the storms there’s a possibility of more.”
BoM’s Weather Situation reads the trough will move into Queensland later on Thursday bringing significantly cooler conditions to the south.
There is a 30 per cent chance of a shower tomorrow afternoon for Alice Springs with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening with gusty winds.
The maximum temperature is forecast at 27C dropping considerably on Thursday to 20C, with a chance of a thunderstorm in the morning.

For wider NT tomorrow there is areas of morning fog over the Top End and Carpentaria District and a slight chance of early morning showers about the Tiwi Islands, with a slight to medium chance of gusty thunderstorms developing in the far southwest Lasseter District during the evening.

A slight to medium chance of showers and gusty thunderstorms south of Ti Tree.
A slight chance of showers about the northwest Daly District. Partly cloudy
elsewhere south of Tennant Creek and mostly sunny over the remainder. Light
winds tending moderate to fresh and gusty northwest to northeast south of
Elliott.
Thursday Forecast
A slight to medium chance of showers and gusty thunderstorms in the Simpson
District, with a high chance in the far southeast, contracting east during the
day. A slight chance of showers about the northwest Daly District.
