IT COULD be another eight to twelve months before Tennant Creek has an official IGA after the town’s only supermarket burnt down earlier this month.
Indigenous Retail Asset Management chief executive John Kop said so far the temporary supermarket was running with one register but as of next week they will expand operations to three registers, and have refrigeration and grocery shelving.
Mr Kop said all the basic grocery lines will be available, but there won’t be a range of the individual products.
He said they fully replenished stock this week.
“It’s difficult when you move into a temporary site you don’t know what the initial stage is and it’s hard to know how much you need,” he said.
“We will have plenty of stock available and we will be selling at the same pricing structure we had at the IGA.
“We have the same supply chain coming from Adelaide, but it’s a smaller store with a smaller range.
“The only difference is there are no specials from catalogues, where as normally at a supermarket we would run about 2500 specials a week.
“We are selling the goods at the normal shelf price, but we can’t run promotional program while it is a temporary site.”
Mr Kop said insurance assessors have been appointed and they were looking at how fast the store could be rebuilt but there was no information on that yet.
