A PROTESTER has been arrested outside the front of Alice Springs police station during a rainbow flag-raising ceremony, led by police, marking the beginning of this weekend’s FABalice festival.
Members of Alice Springs’ queer community gathered to protest police involvement in the four-day festival, which celebrates LGBTI culture.
“Raising the rainbow flag here (at the police station) is entirely inappropriate,” the protester said during the arrest.
“It is entirely inappropriate (because of) the brutality our community faces every day at the hands of Alice Springs police.

“If there was changes in police practice, police procedures and policy, maybe then we could talk. But raising the rainbow flag is just pink-washing.”

Alice Springs police have been contacted for comment and will provide a response later today.
