NT Police are searching for two offenders who assaulted a man at his home on the weekend.

At 3:45am on Sunday, two unknown offenders forced their way into a home on Blain Street, Tennant Creek, and began searching the premises when they were disturbed by the owner.

The pair attempted to flee when the man grabbed hold and restrained one offender while calling out to neighbours to assist.

The offender broke free and ran into the backyard where he armed himself with a rake and used it to assault the man before jumping the fence into a neighbouring yard.

A quantity of cash and some cigarettes were stolen during the incident.

The man suffered injuries to his right arm during the assault.
