ALICE Springs mother of two Thongdior Agok has been banned from driving for a year after pleading guilty to driving while more than four times over the limit.

On April 23, Ms Agok, 27, was driving on Stott Terrace towards the CBD at 5.50am after consuming alcohol when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a light pole, causing the car to spin 180 degrees.

Police gave her a breath test that returned a breath alcohol content of .218.

The car was a write-off after the crash caused significant damage.

The court heard Ms Agok said she had no excuse as to why she drove, and it was her first relevant driving offence.

Judge David Bamber said: “For someone who is in a responsible position looking after others and come with good references from people who talk about your good character, you make some pretty stupid decisions to be driving with .218, losing control of the car and crashing into a light pole.”

“It’s just the luck of the game when someone gets that drunk and drives as to whether anyone is going to be harmed or not.

“This time you managed to avoid harm to yourself despite the seriousness of the crash.

“You have to realise that you’ve got to start making good decisions in life or you’ll end up in jail, then you’ll be worrying about your kids.”

Ms Agok was issued $1250 in fines and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
