The court heard when she fell to the ground he became “more violent” and dragged her along by her arm, causing her pants to come off.

“Police found her with serious injuries, half undressed,” Judge Meredith Huntingford said.

The court heard she had a “deep, ragged cut” to her eyebrow and stitches were required.

A victim impact statement revealed her “whole body was swollen and sore and it hurt to walk”.

“She was frightened,” Judge Huntingford said.

“This is a serious example of an unprovoked serious DV assault.”

The court heard Holmes was a skilled man and had potential as well as future work ambitions and was a talented musician and artist, who had sold paintings.

Judge Huntingford said his long-term relationship suffered from alcohol abuse, and he had been assaulting the victim during the entire relationship.
