A YOUNG man with a “violent history” has found himself before court after he drunkenly assaulted his sister and threatened her with a knife after a disagreement about the use of the family car, a court has heard.

Ezekeil Marshall, 22, pleaded guilty last Wednesday to assaulting his sister in Alice Springs last year.

The court heard on November 25, 2020, at around midnight the victim was at a unit when the defendant arrived intoxicated.

After a short time he started getting mad at his sister, who was laying on the couch, over an argument about the use of the family car.

When she got up he punched her once in the temple which made her head hit the wall, before arming himself with a serrated knife from the kitchen.

The court heard the victim fled and hid before police arrived.

The defendant was later arrested.

Defence lawyer Cassandra Leonard said the assault was a result of a disagreement about the use of the family car, where the victim objected to Marshall using the car while intoxicated.

“He accepts this reasoning in the sober light of day,” Ms Leonard said.

“The infliction of force is a single punch.

“It is my instruction that the knife was intended to scare her and that he would never intend to use the knife to hurt his sister.”

The matter was adjourned to Tuesday January 19.
