KEY tenders making up part of the $20 million plan to revitalise the Alice Springs CBD have been awarded, with construction of the project expected to be complete in 2022.
The project to create a greener, safer and more vibrant town centre includes lighting upgrades, cooling initiatives, and a river activation space.
The investment is expected to support 70 local jobs and inject $8.7 million into the Alice Springs economy.

McMahon Services Australia has been awarded the tender for the construction of shade structures, landscaping, roadworks and associated works worth $6 million.
The focus of this tender is the shading and greening of Gregory Terrace, Bath Street and Hartley Street.
A $1.9 million lighting upgrades tender has been awarded to Territory business Aussie Mandias to deliver lighting and CCTV enhancements for several areas including Stott Terrace Bridge and Trevor Reid Park.
A contract for the construction of a shade structure by the river on the corner of Parsons Street and Leichhardt Terrace has been awarded to local business Ant Galactic for $780,000.
The shaded activation space, which has been designed to capitalise on the enticing Todd River views, will include seating, water mister cooling, USB charging ports and free Wi-Fi.
Minister for Central Australian Economic Reconstruction Chansey Paech said the projects would boost business and re-energise Alice Springs.
“Our vision is for a greener, safer and more modern Alice Springs that is fast becoming the inland capital of Australia,” the Gwoja MLA said.
“Alice Springs already has a unique beauty and these projects will make our town centre all the more attractive, prosperous and welcoming.”
Previously tendered work packages for the revitalisation project were completed in late 2020 and early 2021, and included pedestrian routes between the CBD, the heritage district, and the railway station, as well as LED lighting throughout the CBD.
The project has been developed in collaboration with the Alice Springs Town Council.
