Hundreds turn out to protest Invasion Day at Alice Springs rally
HUNDREDS of people took to the Alice Springs’ Court Lawns today to protest the ongoing dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to celebrate the resistance and survival of the oldest living culture on earth.

The Invasion Day rally started with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony.

Eastern Arrernte woman, Aboriginal history lecturer and rally organiser Pat Ansell Dodds said she had been fighting for her people’s rights in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) for many years.
“I think it’s important we tell the history to non-Aboriginal history as well,” she said.

“I’ve seen the results of that and it’s still happening today.”
