Hot July temperatures in Alice Springs hit 30C for seventh time in eight decades

TEMPERATURES in Alice Springs on Wednesday exceeded 30C for the seventh time since weather records first started, 80 years ago.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded the warm temperatures at the Alice Springs Airport, which is 10C above July’s average temperature.
BOM forecaster Billy Lynch told ABC radio it was “incredibly rare”.
“Previously to this July temperatures had only ever hit 30C six times before,” he said.
The average July maximum temperature in Alice Springs is recorded as 19.9C.

Night-time temperatures in the town have also been reminiscent of Autumn temperatures, and have sat in the high teens for the first half of the week.
It’s been a warm week across the Territory and on Tuesday, Yulara temperatures reached 30.2C. The July record is 31.1C.
Temperature records date back to 1941.
A cool change is expected to move through towards the end of the week.
