HOT conditions have given way to a cold snap in Alice Springs and surrounds with temperatures plummeting to 13.9C overnight.
But it felt even colder, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) recording apparent temperatures as 10.2C at 6am this morning at Alice Springs Airport.
The apparent temperature was recorded as 12C at 7am.
It’s a welcome reprieve after persistently sunny weather encouraged the mercury to climb in the Barkly and Tanami forecast districts this week, which brought very hot conditions.

But further south, BOM said Alice Springs and surrounding communities can enjoy a “cold snap”.
“The slightly cooler southeast change will see temperatures dip from the recent scorching 40s to the low 30s towards the end of the week as summer comes to a close,” BOM said.
“It’s only a short reprieve as temperatures will rise again over the weekend and early next week.
“This return to average temperatures also brings with it a return to average rainfall – ie, none – for Central Australia.”
