Amoonguna celebrates the opening of new basketball court

RESIDENTS in a Centralian community will no longer have to make their way into town for a shady spot to play basketball

RESIDENTS of Amoonguna will no longer have to make their way into town for a shady spot to play sport with a new-and-improved $600,000 basketball court officially opened.

The old basketball court was a much smaller concrete slab with no shade, while the new structure is fully covered, has new line marking, new towers with hoops and boards and new lights.

Traditional Owner and MacDonnell Regional councillor Lynette Ellis said the Amoonguna community was happy to have the new facility.

“It is such a good place for the kids and the young people to go and enjoy activities,” she said.

“It can be used all year around, in winter and summer time, especially when it’s hot.

“We look forward to its use by the Amoonguna community.”

Local Government Minister Chansey Paech said the NT government was proud to support the MacDonnell Regional Council.
