Alexandra Craig wins Career Achievement Award at 2021 NT Young Achiever Awards

TERRITORY lawyer and community volunteer Alexandra Craig has won the a prestigious award which recognises her career work.

ALICE Springs lawyer and community volunteer Alexandra Craig has won the a prestigious award which recognises her career work at the 2021 NT Young Achiever Awards.

Ms Craig, 27 of Gillen took out the McDonalds NT Career Achievement Award category on Friday April 23 at Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin.

Ms Craig earned her double degree in Law and Business in February 2019 and completed her placement at the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania.

She moved to Central Australia and accepted a casual contract with the Central Australian Women’s Legal Service while completing her Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

She currently works full time as a Community Development Lawyer at the Central Land Council.

“I am fortunate my work as a community development lawyer at the Central Land Council takes me to remote Communities across Central Australia, working with and empowering our First Nations people,” she said.

“I find value and have a strong passion for contract and native title law, social justice and the application of justice within communities and at an international and domestic level, advocating without prejudice.”

Ms Craig was one of 12 winners who each received a trophy and $2,000 to assist in achieving their goals, courtesy of founding partner TIO.

• Melanie Gunner, 22 of Gillen – Glencore McArthur River Mining Regional and Rural Initiative Award

• Emma Warren, 24 of Anula – Charles Darwin University Innovation Award

• Alexandra Craig, 27 of Gillen – McDonalds NT Career Achievement Award

Hugh Dawson was later announced as the 2021 Northern Territory Young Achiever of the Year.
