AN ABUSIVE thug who bombarded his partner with hundreds of phone calls and messages during a domestic violence order has been jailed in Alice Springs.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, pleaded guilty on Thursday to multiple counts of contravening domestic violence orders as well as aggravated assault.

Crown prosecutor Simon Lapinski said that during the application of a domestic violence order, the man contacted the victim 522 times via phone and texts in a two-week period.

“Some of those messages and phone calls were kind and affectionate but a large number of them were aggressive, derogatory and threatening,” he said.

One message sent by the offender said “you have a choice, either talk to me now before dark or get the f..king bashing of your f..king life.”

Other messages included vile insults which are too graphic too publish.

The Alice Springs Local Court also heard that the offender left the victim an abusive handwritten note on Christmas Day and bashed her aggressively the day after, leaving her bruised.

While the offender was in jail, he attempted to post a six- page letter which was directed to a male as well as the victim.

The letter was intercepted by correctional officers at the Alice Springs jail.

“Can you really try and talk to (the victim) for me about me please, I really need to know how she still feels about me,” the letter said.

“Need to hand her my letters or whoever, they can be put in the letterbox of her mum and dad please try for me. If she loves me she’ll talk.”

The victim was also subjected to verbal abuse and her parents attempted to protect her from the offender.

On one occasion, the victim’s parents found the couple arguing in the Todd River before police were contacted.

Judge John Birch ordered for a section 103 assessment to assess the offender’s suitability for supervision and adjourned the matter to Friday.

The offender has been remanded in custody.
