A prominent Mornington Island former community worker has been remembered for his generosity and caring nature.
Father of two Waal Waal Moon, 51, known as ‘Bimbie’ Moon was found dead in Mornington Island on June 5.
He has been remembered as a much-loved and popular town member known for his community work.
He was the son of Alma and Cyril Moon, a Lardil Lore man.
Bimbie’s niece Rhianne Williams said he was known as someone who “cared for everybody”.
“He just wanted to help everyone,” Ms Williams said.
“It didn’t matter if you were Indigenous or non-Indigenous, he was there for you and he cared.”
Ms Williams said he was known for his laughter, his humour and for taking young people on traditional hunting trips.
“I can barely talk about this without getting too emotional,” she said.
Mornington Island councillor Roxanne Thomas added: “He was just someone we are all really going to miss.
“Everyone just loved him
“I can’t express my feelings when I’m in so much sorrow, but he was very well respected. People who knew him, loved him.”
The Queensland Coroner’s Court said it was investigating but the death is not believed to be suspicious.
