A CAIRNS man had to double-check his ticket “so many times” before accepting that he will be set for life after landing a life-changing division-one lottery windfall.
The man held the only division-one winning entry in Thursday’s Set for Life draw, meaning he will take home a prize of $4.8 million – paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
The Far Northerner said he couldn’t believe it when he saw his winning numbers.
“I thought I was dreaming,” he said.
“I called some family members straight away and told them, and they were so happy for me.
He said the windfall meant he would be able to “relax a bit and focus on what’s important to me”.
“I’ll be able to retire from work if I want to or at least cut back significantly,” he said.
“I will spend more time with my family, and we can go on some amazing holidays all over the world.
“I am definitely going to get a personal trainer too – which is something I have always wanted to do.”
The man bought his winning ticket online at The Lott website, however the Far North has proven to be a lottery hot spot in recent years.
The region’s biggest recent wins have included two $40 million windfalls.
A whopping $30,627,552.12 was also scored from 12 division-one winning entries across the region between December 1, 2019 and November 30, 2020.
And it seems punters don’t even need to be residents of the Far North to take advantage of Lady Luck.
In September, two holiday makers scored $1 million after buying a Gold Lotto ticket at Spar Holloways Beach.
