A CAIRNS mum has turned a $2 outlay into a huge cash windfall after becoming the latest Far North resident to hit the lottery jackpot.

The woman was buying a card at Nextra Earlville News when she grabbed a few Instant Scratch-Its as well.

One of them, a $2 Fruit Loot ticket, paid off to the tune of $25,000.

The woman said she thought her eyes were playing tricks when she first scratched the ticket.

“I wasn’t if I was looking at the ticket correctly. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“I had to get my husband to double check. I was in shock.”

The woman said she’d been wanting a new car for a long time and would now treat herself to one.

Nextra Earlville manager Joel Philip said the win was exciting for the newsagency as well as its customers.

“Cairns has had plenty of big wins this year and we love seeing these prizes go to our regular and local customers,” he said.

“We all take a lot of joy in selling winning tickets.”

June has proven to be a successful month for the Stockland Cairns newsagency.

It’s nearly one year since a Cairns woman scored $740,000 after winning division one in Saturday Gold Lotto.
