Iconic Aussie rock band Crowded House reveals what’s in store for fans ahead of Cairns show

One of the country’s most iconic rock bands is heading to the Far North, promising something for fans both old and new.

THE dream still isn’t over for Cairns Crowded House fans, with the iconic Aussie rock band soon to hit the Far North on their latest national tour.

Liam Finn, who has joined his brother Elroy and dad Neil Finn in the band, said it was “a really special experience” working with his family.

“I’ve been watching them make music since I was born, so it’s been amazing being able to work with them and share a stage,” he said.

“It’s always a big deal to tour Australia, we’ve got the biggest fan base here so it’s a momentous and joyous experience.”

Finn said the experience emphasised how their music – which includes hit songs like Don’t Dream It’s Over, Weather With You, and Better be Home Soon – resonated with generations of fans.

“It’s the kind of music a lot of people grew up listening to because their parents listened, it’s a multi-generational thing,” he said.

“Just like in the band we’ve got ages from 32 to 69, our audience is varied too and that’s a really special thing – to be able to connect with different people.”

The ‘Dreamers are Waiting’ tour celebrates Crowded House’s 2021 album of the same name, but Finn promised there would be plenty of the classic tracks that catapulted the band to international acclaim.

“Often some of the best moments of the night were when we were playing the new stuff,” he said of their recent European tour.

“But we do a two-hour show, so we’ve got plenty of time to throw in the hits.”

The new album feels fresh and contemporary while still featuring the band’s signature chord structures and tight harmonies.

It has been met with acclaim, reaching number two on the Australian charts.

But he said rather than seeking acclaim, it was simple love of music that kept drawing them back.

“Life’s too short to worry about it, we’re just going to keep making records for our own enjoyment.”

Tickets are on sale now for the band’s performance at the Cairns Convention Centre on Tuesday, November 1 through Ticketek.
